FG invites council of state, police council for ‘strategic’ security meeting

The federal government has invited the council of state and the police council to a “strategic” security meeting.

In a statement on Monday, Segun Imohiosen, director of information at the office of secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), said the meeting is scheduled to take place on Thursday at the council chamber of the presidential villa, Abuja.

“This high-level meeting underscores President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to addressing pressing national issues and ensuring the safety and security of citizens,” the statement reads.

Imohiosen said members can participate either physically or virtually.

Emanso Umobong, permanent secretary, cabinet affairs, office of the SGF, said the meeting “aims to discuss matters of national importance and key issues affecting national security and policing”.

The council of state is composed of the president, who serves as chairman; the vice-president, who is the deputy chairman; all former presidents and former heads of state; all former chief justices of Nigeria; the president of the senate; the speaker of the house of representatives; all state governors; and the minister of justice and attorney-general of the federation.

The police council comprises the president, all state governors, the chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), and the inspector-general of police.
