The federal government says N5.12 billion pension arrears have been disbursed to 90,689 retirees under the defined benefit scheme (DBS).
Olugbenga Ajayi, the head of corporate communications at Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), announced the disbursement in a statement on Monday.
Ajayi said the payment covered retirees across the four pension departments and reflected the administration’s commitment to pensioners’ welfare.
Providing a breakdown, he said 8,626 pensioners in the Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, and Prisons Pension Department (CIPPD) received N276.03 million for one month’s arrears.

The PTAD spokesperson said the police pension department (PPD) pensioners, totalling 9,681, got N619.58 million for two months’ arrears.
Ajayi also said 12,773 civil service pension department (CSPD) pensioners were paid N408.74 million for one month’s arrears, while 59,609 retirees in the parastatals pension department (PAPD) received N3.81 billion covering two months.
The official said the payment aligns with the ‘renewed hope’ agenda of President Bola Tinubu to ensure retirees receive their due entitlements promptly.

In June, the PTAD said it had finalised the payment of pension arrears installment of the N32,000 increment approved by Tinubu in 2024.
Ajayi said the installment of N8.6 billion covered all 148,625 eligible defined benefit scheme (DBS) pensioners across the police, civil service, parastatals, customs, immigration and prisons pensions departments of the directorate.
