The federal government says it has sent some investigators to Koko community in Delta state to look into a suspected case of toxic waste dumping in the area.

Speaking with state house correspondents after the federal executive council (FEC) meeting chaired by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo in Abuja on Wednesday, Amina Mohammed, minister of environment, said the investigators were to ensure that more toxic substance was not dumped in the community and to uncover those behind the act.

“On the crisis that happened in Delta state, we have sent a team right there yesterday,” she said.

“The team is securing the site to ensure no more waste is dumped there.

“The second thing is to find out who has contributed to that so that it can be contained.

“We need to look at how that happened in the first place and then how toxic waste in that area got into water.

“The regulatory agencies are there as we speak and we are expecting a report.”

Some residents of Koko community had said they saw containers of what they fear was toxic waste being dumped in the area.
