The federal government has reopened the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos state after rehabilitation works.

Babatunde Fashola, minister of works and housing, announced this via his Twitter handle on Saturday.

”Third mainland bridge rehab completed. Fully opens to traffic at 12noon today. Thank you all for your patience. Drive safely,” he wrote.

The government had announced on Wednesday that the bridge would be shut for 24 hours from Friday.

The bridge was partially shut for repairs on July 24, 2020.

Fashola had said the bridge would be reopened on February 15 to enable the government to begin work on the Falomo Bridge.

But on February 14, Olukayode Popoola, the federal controller of works in Lagos, announced that it would no longer be opened on February 15.

He said the bridge would be closed totally from February 19 to 21 before completion of the project for the final re-opening by the end of February.

The 11.8km bridge is the longest of the three bridges connecting Lagos Island to the Mainland.

It starts from Oworonshoki, which is linked to Apapa-Oshodi Expressway and Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, and ends at Adeniji Adele Interchange on Lagos Island.
