The federal government says it is committed to ensuring that every Nigerian benefits from the reforms introduced under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Mohammed Idris, minister of information and national orientation, spoke on Monday in Abuja during a press conference to mark Nigeria’s 65th independence anniversary.

He said Tinubu’s government is implementing the renewed hope agenda built around eight priority areas, with the aim of driving prosperity, peace, and national unity.

“Our trade surplus continues to grow, with an increasing share of contributions from the non-oil sector,” Idris said.

“Declining inflation, a strengthening currency, falling food prices, growing external reserves—all of these are more eloquent testament that we are on the right track.”

The minister noted that more than 500,000 tertiary institution students are already benefitting from the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), one of the administration’s flagship social programmes.

On energy and infrastructure, Idris cited ongoing projects such as the Kaduna power plant, the Siemens-supported Presidential Power Initiative, the planned distribution of seven million smart meters by 2027, and the $750 million renewable energy programme supported by the World Bank.

He also listed major transport projects, including the Sokoto-Badagry superhighway, the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway, and the rehabilitation of the eastern rail corridor from Port Harcourt to Maiduguri.

According to him, new investments are flowing into solid minerals, oil, and gas, while over 1,000 primary healthcare centres have been rehabilitated nationwide to improve access to medical services.

“As we celebrate 65 years of independence, let us steadfastly hold on to hope, unity, and patriotism. Let us never lose sight of the fact that the Renewed Hope Agenda is not just a slogan — it is a reality that is already touching lives and will continue to do so in the years ahead,” Idris said.

“It is now time for the entire country to reap the fruit of the seeds of reform that have been painstakingly planted. This administration is working for you, listening to you, and committed to ensuring that no Nigerian is left behind.”

He called on citizens to continue to believe in the country and support government efforts, saying unity of purpose was necessary to consolidate progress and realise national aspirations.
