The Nigerian government is in talks with Boko Haram to secure the release of more than 200 girls abducted six months ago, Voice of America reported on Friday.
The federal government is also negotiating a ceasefire to the insurgency that has ravaged the northeastern part of the country.
Hassan Tukur, principal private secretary to President Goodluck Jonathan, is meeting with Danladi Ahmadu, Boko Haram’s representative, and high-level officials from Chad and Cameroon.
Ahmadu, who spoke in Saudi Arabia, said the girls were “in good condition and unharmed.”
However, he did not elaborate on the conditions under which the girls would be freed.
On April 14, dozens of Boko Haram fighters stormed Government secondary school in Chibok, kidnapping around 270 girls. Fifty-seven managed to escape.
The Nigerian government has said it is working hard to secure the release of the remaining girls in captivity.
