FG unveils digital platform to track tertiary school finance, performance

The federal government has launched a digital platform to boost transparency, accountability, and governance across Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.

The Tertiary Institution Governance and Transparency Platform (FTIGTP), it said in Abuja on Tuesday, is to enhance public trust and operational efficiency.

Tunji Alausa, the minister of education, described the FTIGTP as a “major milestone” in the nation’s effort to restore confidence in the management of its higher learning institutions.

Alausa explained that the platform will introduce a unified system that provides real-time visibility into crucial metrics across all tertiary institutions.

This includes student enrolment and government funding, a first for Nigeria.

The new system will cover key areas such as TETFund allocations, NELFund interventions, research grants, and institutional performance indicators.

Alausa said this creates a single, integrated framework for monitoring and assessing tertiary education outcomes nationwide.

The minister emphasised that the FTIGTP is designed to end years of fragmented, inconsistent data collection across institutions.

He said it will replace multiple reporting formats with a unified, accurate, and accessible digital system, serving as the single nationwide source of reliable data.

“For many years, tertiary education data has been scattered across platforms, paper reports, and inconsistent submissions, limiting oversight and trust,” Alausa stated.

He noted that the FTIGTP will foster financial transparency, enhance accountability, and discourage fund misuse.

The minister said institutions will be required to submit data quarterly, with financial reporting directly tied to performance and eligibility for future government funding, thus ensuring better resource allocation.

Alausa called for the full cooperation of all vice-chancellors, rectors, and provosts across the country.
