The federal government says it will ensure the safe release of schoolchildren abducted from the Government Science College (GSC), Kagara, Niger state.
On Wednesday, gunmen suspected to be bandits stormed the school, and kidnapped several students, members of staff, and some members of their families.
Abubakar Bello, governor of the state, had said 27 students, three staff and 12 family members were kidnapped from the school.
President Muhammadu Buhari had immediately sent a security delegation to the state.
Lai Mohammed, minister of information, who spoke when the delegation arrived the state on Wednesday afternoon, said the government will deploy all resources available to ensure the safe release of all the abducted persons.
The minister explained that they were sent by President Muhammadu Buhari to reassure the people and the government of Niger state that his administration would not leave any stone unturned in ensuring safety of lives and property.
He said the government would endorse whatever approach the state government had adopted to ensure the safe return of the victims.
Babagana Monguno, national security adviser (NSA), who was part of the delegation, described the abduction of the students as unfortunate.
Monguno said the government is determined to do everything possible to make the country safe.
On his part, Mohammed Adamu, the inspector-general of police (IGP), noted that strategies are being put in place to tackle insecurity in parts of the country.
He also urged residents of the communities to cooperate with security agencies to provide useful information on bandits.
Bello, while receiving the delegation, thanked the federal government for its prompt response.
