President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday obtained the expression-of-interest and nomination forms of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which formally makes him the presidential candidate of the party.

Earlier on Wednesday, the president had announced that a group of Nigerians had contributed N98 million for the purchase of the forms.

On Thursday, he thanked the donors again and promised not to let them down.

“Let me use this opportunity to thank Nigerians who contributed to the purchase of these forms. I remain most grateful for this gesture,” he said.

“Let me restate that I will work with all Nigerians. No matter how strong a president is, he must work with people. Let me reassure you that I will not let you down.”

Jonathan also thanked the leadership of the PDP for believing in him and endorsing him as the sole candidate of the party.

He reassured Nigerians of his government’s commitment to developing the country.

“Our commitment is to move Nigeria to the next level.”

Jonathan was accompanied to the PDP headquarters by Namadi Sambo, vice president; Godswill Akpabio, governor of Akwa Ibom state; and other PDP governors and party officials.

While restating the party’s confidence in the government of Jonathan, Adamu Mu’azu, the PDP chairman, remarked that the president was endorsed by the party because of his remarkable achievements.
