After initially sponsoring a series of petitions against her, senators from Sokoto state have finally endorsed the ministerial nomination of Aisha Abubakar.

In a letter signed by Ibrahim Gobir (Sokoto east), Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto north) and Ibrahim Abdullahi (Sokoto south), and read by Senate President Bukola Saraki on the floor of the chamber, the lawmakers said they were endorsing the nomination of Abubakar as minister from the state after due consultation with their constituencies.

‎The senators had earlier submitted a petition to the senate challenging the nomination of Abubakar on the grounds that she was incompetent.

But on Wednesday, they withdrew the petition, urging the senate to screen and confirm the nominee.

Last week, President Muhammadu Buhari consulted with Aminu Tambuwal and Aliyu Wamakko to resolve issues regarding the nominee.

Also, Abubakar had met with the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto, which earlier rejected her nomination on the grounds that she was not a member of the party, to settle matters concerning her nomination.
