There was a fire outbreak at Maola shopping mall in Ebute Ero market, Idumota, Lagos state, on Friday.

Although there were no casualties, the fire reportedly affected two shops in the mall. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, director general of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency  (LASEMA), said the fire had been curtailed by emergency responders.

“Upon the arrival of the emergency responders at the scene, it was revealed that a building, the Maola Shopping Mall, was affected by fire of an unknown origin,” he said.

“A combined team of the LASEMA responders from Lagos central zone, the Lagos state fire service, Sari Iganmu, federal fire service and the Nigeria police force was able to curtail the flames and only the top floor of the building (shops 36 and 35) was affected with no casualties. Responders have returned to base.”

Lagos has recorded different fire outbreaks this year, with the government promising to put in place measures to check such incidents.
