The office of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in the Wuse Zone 7 District of Abuja has been gutted by fire.

The cause of the fire, which has now been put out, is unknown at this time.

It was gathered that the fire started from the top floor of the building, which housed the office of the general secretary as well as the president of the football federation.

“It’s sad for this kind of a thing to be happening now,” a source close to The Glass House told TheCable.

“Conspiracy theorist wouldn’t be wrong to suspect foul play but I think the fire might as well be caused by electrical fault.”

The NFF is currently engulfed in a leadership tussle, with Aminu Maigari and Mike Umeh laying claim to the presidential position of the football body.

Maigari, returned to office on Monday, following the directive of the Sports Minister, Tammy Danagogo. However, members of the Umeh-led faction of the board Tuesday shunned the federation’s executive board meeting called by the reinstated Maigari.

Umeh, who led his team to protest the return of the NFF president on Monday, insist that Maigari remained impeached by the NFF board, noting that only the congress could either ratify or quash his impeachment.

Among the members, who boycotted Tuesday’s meeting were Mike Umeh, Shehu Adamu, Effiong Johnson, Anyansi Agwu and Deji Tinubu.

In fact, it is enough of the messy power play in the Nigeria football house. The mess is now assuming a dimension Government must assert its authority. Can’t Nigeria survive without football? I hope someone somewhere is listening.
