Atiku Bagudu, minister of budget and economic planning, says the federal government will intervene to ensure prompt restoration of power in Kebbi state.

Bagudu gave the assurance on Monday when he visited the Birnin-Kebbi substation alongside Umar Abubakar, deputy governor of Kebbi state.

On September 14, 2023, a fire incident occurred at the substation, affecting power supply in Kebbi and Sokoto states.

Speaking during the visit, Bagudu said: “I came here with the deputy governor and we are ready to collaborate with the state government to ensure electricity supply is restored as quickly as possible.

“I use this opportunity also to commend Gov. Nasir Idris for all his giant strides which we are seeing every day.

“He is doing a good job to ensure Kebbi state continues to prosper.

“I know how passionate the governor is when it comes to the issue on how to ensure we move the state forward.”

On his part, Abubakar said electricity would be temporarily restored to some parts of the state by tonight or Tuesday.

“From what we have gathered from the TCN, from the engineers on the site, I am happy to say that the engineers are working round the clock,” he said.

“I think before, our thought was that we are going to be in darkness for three weeks or two months.”

He assured that electricity will be available very soon as “they are working round the clock”.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said it restored bulk power supply to Sokoto state on Friday

“We are diligently working to extend this restoration to Kebbi State and other areas affected by the unfortunate Birnin Kebbi Substation fire incident that occurred on September 14th, 2023,” TCN had said.
