Five gunmen killed as security operatives repel attack on checkpoint in Soludo’s hometown

The Anambra police command says security operatives have killed five gunmen following an attack in Isuofia, Aguata LGA of the state.

Tochukwu Ikenga, Anambra police spokesperson, in a statement on Saturday, said the gunmen came in a Lexus 470 jeep and attacked the checkpoint on Saturday morning.

Aguata is the hometown of Chukwuma Soludo, governor of Anambra.

“The situation is under control after five of the criminal elements were neutralised and police/military patrols have been intensified in the area,” NAN quoted Ikenga as saying.

“The Joint Forces from FOB Aguata responded swiftly, engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel and neutralised five of the armed men, while others escaped with bullet wounds from the scene in a dark blue Lexus 470 jeep without number plate.”

Paul Nwosu, Anambra commissioner for information, in a statement, commended the security operatives for their efforts.

“Our gallant and alert security agents gave them a hot chase and immediately returned fire and neutralised five of the gang members in a fierce exchange of shootings,” Nwosu said.
