Five killed in fresh suicide attack in Borno

Five people have reportedly been killed at a checkpoint of the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the Muna area of Maiduguri, capital of Borno state.

A female suicide bomber was said to have detonated her improvised explosive device (IED) at the checkpoint.

Lukman Umar, a witness, said three other female suicide bombers attempted to attack a public gathering at a commercial bus stop in the area.

He said the first bomber rammed into a vehicle conveying charcoal, injuring five people, including her co-bomber, while the third bomber fell inside a pit in the process.

She was said to have died on the spot while her bomb was demobilised by the police bomb anti-ordinance personnel that arrived the scene later.

Umar added that those injured during the attack were rushed to an undisclosed hospital where they are currently receiving treatment.

The Borno state police command police is yet to confirm the attacks.

Efforts to reach Victor Isuku, spokesman of the command, were unsuccessful.
