Five ministers of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) have reportedly been abducted on their way to attend the church’s ministers’ conference in Lagos.

Enoch Adeboye, the general overseer of the church, was said to have announced the abduction while delivering his sermon at the Redeemed Camp along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, on Friday.

It was gathered that the abduction took place on Thursday along the Ijebu-Ode axis.

The cleric was said to have urged the congregation to pray for the release of the abducted pastors, adding that it was the first time such an incident would happen in the church.

“As a father, how do you think I should feel to hear that five of my children have been kidnapped while on their way to attend the Ministers Conference?” he asked.

Bala Elkana, police public relation officer in the state, was unavailable for comments when TheCable tried to reach him as of the time this report was filled.

In recent times, several cases of kidnappings and other forms of insecurity have been recorded in the south-west.

This prompted south-west governors to hold a meeting with stakeholders in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, to address the security challenges in the region in June.

The governors also agreed to set up joint patrol teams across the region to curb the activities of criminals “terrorising” innocent persons and making the highways unsafe for travellers.
