Five shops destroyed as fire razes market, hotel in Lagos

There has been a fire outbreak at Hotel Ibis Royale along Airport road, Ajao Estate in Isolo area of Lagos state.

Margaret Adeseye, director of Lagos Fire and Rescue Service, said the fire emanated from an open bar in the hotel.

Adeseye added that the fire spread to the adjoining topmost floor of a two-storey penthouse.

“The fire was reported at 16:50 hours on Wednesday and two storey building consisting of 46 rooms were prevented from substantial damage,” she said.

She added that the quick intervention of the Isolo and Bolade fire crew of the service curtailed the fire from causing substantial damage.

Adeseye added that another fire outbreak was recorded in Oja Oba Moruf International Market at Ejigbo road, Iyana Ejigbo Lagos.

She said the market was reported to be  engulfed at 04:06am on Thursday.

“Ejigbo fire station crew moved in to put out the fire which only affected five lock-up shops in a row of eight shops,” she said.

“Both rescue operations have been successfully completed with no casualty recorded.”

On Tuesday, two people were rescued from a fire incident af Victory Bay, Ikota housing estate in Ajah area of the state.

The incident involved a shanty storey building within the estate.
