The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) says about 15,000 households affected by the 2022 and 2023 flood in Borno will benefit from the federal government’s intervention programme.
Speaking on Tuesday during the distribution of relief materials in Borno, Mustapha Habib, director-general of NEMA, said 660,884 households have been selected and verified to benefit from the intervention across the country.
Habib, represented by Aliyu Shehu, team lead of the special national economic and livelihood emergency intervention (SNELEI), said the victims would be given food and non-food items.
He said other relief items such as agricultural inputs and livelihood support of grinding and sewing machines would be distributed to the victims.
“This intervention is also expected to drive the sustainable socio-economic resilience of the targeted most vulnerable individuals,” NAN quoted Habib as saying.
“NEMA staff were deployed to conduct the verification of the target beneficiaries in collaboration with personnel from SEMAs, State Agricultural Development Project and other relevant stakeholders.”
While presenting the items to the beneficiaries, Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno, commended the federal government for the intervention.
Zulum added that the intervention would improve the livelihood of citizens who are recovering from the impact of disasters in the state.
