Residents of three communities in the Yola north and Yola south LGAs of Adamawa state have been displaced by flooding following a heavy downpour.

According to the police command in Adamawa, the affected communities are Limiwa, Rumde, Shinko and Jambutu.

Suleiman Nguroje, police spokesperson in the state, said on Tuesday that marine police officers had been deployed for search and rescue operations.

Nguroje added that Morris Dankombo, the commissioner of police in the state, visited the affected communities to assess the situation.

He urged residents to remain calm and avoid flood-prone areas while providing an emergency contact line — 08089671313 — for distress calls.

Ladan Ayuba, head of operations at the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Yola, said response teams have been deployed to the area.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) had earlier warned of likely flooding across several states in its 2025 seasonal climate prediction.

The agency projected an early onset of rainfall and highlighted the risks of flash floods in both coastal and inland states, including Adamawa.

In July, NiMet predicted thunderstorms and heavy rainfall over Adamawa and neighbouring states and alerted residents to the possibility of flash floods.

In July, at least 25 people were killed and more than 5,500 displaced after torrential rains triggered flooding in Yola and surrounding communities.

The latest flooding incident adds to growing concerns over the state’s vulnerability, with residents calling for urgent government action to mitigate future disasters.
