Flying Eagles defeated Hoffenheim’s U-23 team 5-2 in their first friendly match in preparation for the FIFA U-20 World Youth Championship.

Two first half goals from Saviour Godwin and Chidera Ezeh and a second half hat-trick from Taiwo Awoniyi condemned the Bundesliga side’s feeder team to defeat in front of their fans.

Godwin put Nigeria U-20 side ahead only for them to concede an equaliser after a mix up in their defence was capitalised on by the Germans.

The Manu Garba-tutored team took the lead once more from Ezeh’s goal but the Germans levelled up to end the half 2-2.

The game didn’t liven up till the second half when Awoniyi was brought in after 15 minutes. And he proved why he’s the rave of the moment scoring three goals to give the Flying Eagles a well-deserved 5-2 victory.

They will meet Nurnberg’s U-23 team on Friday in another friendly game.
