Feedwell Agribusiness Company says it has partnered with the Imo state government to train over 500 youths in different agricultural-related businesses in the state.

Richard Ottih, managing director of Feedwell Agribusiness, said this in a statement over the weekend.

Ottih said participants would gain knowledge and expertise to explore employment opportunities in agriculture and agribusinesses.

“Global population is expected to increase to 9 billion by 2050, with young people accounting for about 14 percent of this total. While the world’s youth cohort is expected to grow, employment, they must be trained on how to build capacity in agriculture to position them for future opportunities,” he said.

Eric Uwakwe, special adviser to Imo state government on youth affairs, disclosed that the state government is particularly interested in the partnership with Feedwell to increase the participation of youth, teenagers, and women in the agricultural space.

He said recruitment would replace the ageing farmers, increase food production and boost income.

Uwakwe added that the initiative is driven by the vision of the administration led by Hope Uzodinma to empower the youths by impacting meaningful skills that would uplift them from economic hardship whilst also making them employers of labour.
