Zuwaira Hassan, a former commissioner of health in Bauchi state, is dead. 

Hassan, 46, died on Monday in a car accident that occurred at Zaranda village, on her way to Bauchi from Jos, Plateau state capital.

According to The PUNCH, Garkwu Adamu, public relations officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Bauchi state command who is a younger brother to the deceased, confirmed her death.

“Yes, it is true, she died this morning in an accident at Zaranda village on her way to Bauchi from Jos, Plateau State,” Adamu was quoted to have said.

“They were three driving in the vehicle when the incident happened. It is a really sad and tragic incident that you will just wake up with someone and the next moment, that same person is gone, it is really sad.

“She was really hardworking and dedicated to her work. We will really miss her a lot.”

She served as the state’s commissioner for health from 2015-2019 under the administration of Mohammed Abubakar.

Until her death, Hassan was the head of department, community medicine, college of medicine, at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi.

She is survived by her husband and three children.
