Yilwatda Nentawe, a former resident electoral commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Plateau.
Habu Ajiya, chairman of the electoral committee, announced the results on Friday morning.
Ajiya said Nentawe secured 803 votes to defeat three other aspirants in the primary which was held on Thursday in Jos, the state capital.
Patrick Dakum was a distant second with 70 votes, while Sonni Tyoden, the deputy governor of the state, polled 25 votes.
The electoral committee chairman said five of the nine aspirants announced their withdrawal before the commencement of the primary election.
Sunday Biggs, Sarpiya Danyaro, Hezekiah Dimka and Steve Fitka were those who pulled out of the race.
Meanwhile, the deputy governor, Dakum and another aspirant, David Dimka, were said to have staged a walk-out shortly before voting commenced.
NAN reports that they exited the venue after delegates from two of the 17 LGAs had voted.
Speaking on his victory, Nentawe expressed gratitude to the APC, adding that he is optimistic that the party would emerge victorious in 2023.
