Formiga and Marta scored record-breaking goals for Brazil in their 2-0 win over Korea Republic in Montreal.

Formiga, 37, become the oldest scorer in FIFA Women’s World Cup after putting her side ahead in the 33rd minute. Marta then made her own history becoming the top scorer in the tournament’s history after scoring from the spot in the 53rd minute.

The battle of the Group E debutants saw Spain fail to find their way past Costa Rica’s defence in a 1-1 draw.

Vicky Losada scored Spain’s first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup goal, but Raquel Rodriguez Cedeno equalised moments later.

Costa Rica will go into their second game against Korea Republic on Saturday full of confidence after this feat while Spain will need to be at their prolific best in their game with Brazil.
