The Bethesda Child Support Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that advocates for children’s education, has completed its year-long literacy programme to empower young girls in the Ojumole community in Ilaje LGA of Ondo state.
The literacy programme dubbed “SHE Reads” was designed to equip young girls between ages 15 to 20 with fundamental reading and writing skills.
During the year-long programme at the community, young girls were taught how to read and write as part of the foundational scheme to participate fully in formal education.
The programme was designed to address Nigeria’s out-of-school children menace.

Speaking on the success of the programme, Ogechi Ofurum, the CEO of the foundation, said the reading and writing skills of the girls who participated in the programme have now improved.
Ofurum said the programme has helped the girls to build their confidence level in terms of writing and reading.

“The program has been a huge success particularly as many of the girls couldn’t read and write,” Ofurum said.
“This program has helped them improve their level of literacy while building their confidence level reiterating Bethesda’s mandate.”
Oloja Olorunyomi, a community leader, expressed gratitude to the foundation for the initiative.
