Four persons have been reportedly killed in an attack by bandits on the palace of the Emir of Maru LGA in Zamfara state.

Confirming the incident to TheCable, Ibrahim Masud, a resident of the community, said the bandits invaded the palace of Abubakar Maigari, emir of Maru, on Thursday night.

Masud said after the bandits left the palace, they attacked residents and killed four persons in the process.

“It is true that they attacked the place of the emir of Maru yesterday night but they did not find the emir so they started going to people’s houses. My brother told me four people were killed during the attack,” he said.

Also confirming the development, Munir Haidara, commissioner for information in the state, condemned the attack and condoled the people of Maru over the loss of their loved ones.

Haidara said Dauda Lawal, governor of the state, has directed the shutdown of the Maru market until investigations are concluded.

He said the government is working to ensure the security issues in the state are addressed.

Efforts to reach Yazid Abubakar, police spokesperson in the state, for comment were unsuccessful as he did not respond to calls or messages.

Maru — like Moriki, Anka, and Kaura Namoda — is one of the LGAs in Zamfara facing security challenges.
