Four killed as bandits attack Katsina community

Suspected bandits have been killed four people in a raid on Tsayau village in Jibia local government area of Katsina state.

Anas Gezawa, spokesman of the state police command, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday.

The attack comes less than 48 hours after President Muhammadu Buhari ordered the military to hunt and eliminate bandits wherever they are found.

The attackers were said to have arrived the community in motorcycles,  carting away four cows.

Gezawa explained that the villagers went after the suspected bandits into the forest to recover the cows but they were attacked and four were people killed in the process and several others injured.

Tsayau village shares boundary with both Zurmi local government area and Niger Republic.

“DPO Jibiya indicated that on 18/08/19 at about 1530 hours, a group of armed bandits invaded Tsayau village of Jibiya LGA and carted away four cows,” the statement read.

“The villagers mobilised and followed the bandits into the forest, ostensibly to recover the cows. The bandits killed four of the villagers and escaped into the thick hilly mountainous forest.”
