The Falconets put up a determined performance to pip Haiti 1-0 at the Stade de Marville on Thursday.

Both sides, eager to prove a point, started the match at an electrifying pace.

Skipper Rasheedat Ajibade got things rolling in the first minute with a goal-bound cross which was well dealt with by Haiti goalkeeper Kerly Théus.

Falconets’ strikers Ajibade, Anam Imo and Monday Gift dropped deep to pick up passes but were repelled by the well organised Haiti back four.

Ajibade scored from the penalty for the two-time World Cup finalists.

The goal came courtesy of Dougenie Joseph who brought down Imo in the box and Ajibade held her nerve to put the ball in the net.

A rare blunder by Melchie Dumonay almost gifted Ajibade another goal but the FC Robo Queens forward was wasteful with her effort.

Haiti had many opportunities to grab a leveller but they failed to convert their efforts on goal.

The win was the Falconets’ first of the U20 FIFA Women’s World Cup after their opening day loss to Germany.
