The Azzurri are through to Euro 2016 quarter-finals after securing victory over defending champions Spain in the round of 16 on Monday night.
The Spaniards, winners of the last two editions of the tournament in 2008 and 2012, were stunned by the Italians at the Stade de France, Saint-Denis, bringing an end to Coach Vicente Del Bosque’s reign as La Roja boss.
Del Bosque’s team were outplayed, out-thought and outsmarted by a magnificent Italian side led by the incredible life force that is the incoming Chelsea coach Antonio Conte.
Giorgio Chiellini, Juventus centre back, reacted quickest to score the opener in the 33rd minute, pouncing on the rebound of Eder’s free-kick, while Graziano Pelle, Southampton striker, scored the second, latching onto a fine long ball before finishing it up in the 90th minute.
It was a two-goal margin but it could have been more against Spain were it not for series of splendid saves Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea
