Bekeme Olowola, sustainability expert, was recently greeted to a grand reception by friends and her corporate branding guru husband and Meka Olowola, managing partner of Zenera Consulting.

The event was put together in celebration of her appointment to the board of the esteemed Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) of Amsterdam, Netherlands.

The resplendent occasion, was graced by friends, family, and industry captains from within and outside the shores of the country; to celebrate her remarkable feat as the first West African to hold a seat on the reputable Board.

Olowola was showered with accolades by captains of industries on her unprecedented accomplishment, highlighting the fact that the consciousness of corporate Nigeria has been awakened to the need to ingrain sustainability in their DNA owing to her actions.

“Bekeme majors in treading uncharted paths. She is not the sort of person that will execute a project in a way that was previously done,’’ Yomi Awobokun, CEO of Enyo Retail & Supply, said.

Ndidi Nnoli-Edozien, Dangote Group’s chief sustainability and governance officer, also commended Bekeme.

‘’Bekeme’s efforts in making sustainability a core part of how we do business is highly commendable,” she said.

Special guests that graced the occasion were Segun Adebutu, chairman of Petrolex Oil & Gas; Gbolahan Shaba, CEO of L.A.T.C Marine; Bolanle Victor-Laniyan, head of sustainability at Access Bank; Odegua Mbonu, Project Manager EARTH-i UK; and Godman Akinlabi, lead pastor of the Elevation Church.

Others are Olumide Akpata of Partner Templars; Charles O’Tudor, principal consultant of ADSTRAT Branding Management Consortium; Debola Williams, group CEO of Red; Toni Kan, renowned author and media consultant; Kemi Sokenu-Morris, CEO of OOA Foundation; Yinka Mayungbo CEO of Africa Movie Channel; Olisa Adibua, on-air personality; Nechi Ezeako, CEO of IoD Centre for Corporate Governance; and Kennedy Okonkwo, CEO of Nedcomoakes.

GRI is the world’s leading sustainability impact measurement and reporting standards body.

It pioneered sustainability reporting globally and currently serves a global audience through regional hubs in Brazil, China, Colombia, India, South Africa and the United States. Membership on its board is for a three-year renewable tenure.
