The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says nine persons died on Tuesday in an accident at the Kere bridge on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.

Speaking with journalists on Tuesday, Florence Okpe, FRSC spokesperson in Ogun, said seven other passengers sustained injuries during the crash that happened at about 8 a.m.

Okpe said the incident occurred when a truck without a registration number collided with a Mazda bus marked SMK 808 YD.

She said both vehicles had 17 passengers comprising seven men, nine women and one female child.

“Unfortunately, nine persons were recorded dead from the crash, comprising five men and four women,” NAN quoted Okpe as saying.

The FRSC spokesperson said the injured passengers were taken to the General Hospital, Ijaye in Abeokuta for treatment, while the corpses of those who died were deposited at the morgue in the same facility.

She said Anthony Uga, sector commander, warned motorists against violating road safety rules, adding that the accident was caused by over-speeding
