The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says 208 people died in 707 road crashes in Ogun state between January and October 2023.

According to NAN, Sunday Ogungbami, Ogun FRSC head of operations, announced the figures during a sensitisation campaign held on Tuesday in the Ota LGA of the state.

Ogungbami represented Anthony Uga, Ogun FRSC sector commander, at the event.

He said 1,174 people sustained injuries from road crashes during the 10 months.

Ogungbami added that most of the accidents during the period under review occurred at night and were caused by speeding.

“We are appealing to motorists to desist from speeding and refrain from night travel to stem road crashes during the ember months,” the head of the operation said.

“In addition, they should adhere to traffic rules and regulations, drive consciously and ensure their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on any trip,” he said.

On his part, Akeem Ganiyu, FRSC unit commander, implored motorists against overloading warning that overloaded vehicles compromised their stability and increased the risk of crashes.

He also warned against overspeeding by motorists, adding that “there is a need to exercise patience and drive consciously”.

“The allure of speed on open roads can be tempting, but the consequences can be catastrophic, and there is the need to exercise patience and drive consciously,” he said.
