Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers, on Thursday, visited the state’s house of assembly quarters.

The governor’s visit followed the ongoing political crisis in the state house of assembly.

On Wednesday, Victor Jumbo, the lawmaker representing the Bonny constituency, was elected as speaker by the lawmakers loyal to Fubara.

In a video shared on social media, Jumbo said he had directed the clerk of the house to inform Fubara that a new leadership had been elected in the assembly.

The factional speaker said he was ready to work for the people of the state.

Fubara, who took a three-minute walk around the premises before departing, said he came to see the assembly quarters as governor of the state.

The development came on the heels of a comment by the governor that members of the state assembly do not “exist”.

Fubara added that he decided to “give them a floating” through a peace deal initiated by President Bola Tinubu.

The governor said he accepted the peace accord on the understanding that there was a relationship between him and members of the state house of Assembly.

On May 8, Tony Okocha, chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers, asked the state’s house of assembly to impeach the governor.
