FULL LIST: Akume, Ribadu, Wike… Tinubu constitutes committee for Buhari’s burial

President Bola Tinubu has approved the constitution of an inter-ministerial committee to plan the state funeral of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Buhari died on Sunday at a clinic in London, United Kingdom (UK).

The body of the former president was initially scheduled to arrive in Nigeria on Monday.

However, Dikko Radda, the governor of Katsina, said Buhari’s remains would arrive in the country on Tuesday by noon, while burial would take place two hours later.

Tinubu is expected to receive the remains of his late predecessor.

A statement issued by Segun Imohiosen, director of information and public relations at the office of the secretary to the federation (OSGF), said George Akume, the SGF, is the chairman of the committee and is tasked with the responsibility of planning and coordinating a befitting state burial for the late former president.

  4. Idris Mohammed, minister of information and national orientation
  5. Dave Umahi, minister of works
  6. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, minister of interior
  7. Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT)
  8. Ahmed Dangiwa, minister of housing and urban development
  9. Iziaq Salako, minister of state for health and social welfare
  10. Hannatu Musawar, minister of art, culture, and creative economy
  11. Nuhu Ribadu, national security adviser
  12. Hadiza Bala Usman, special adviser to the president on policy and coordination
  13. Kabiru Masari, senior special assistant to the president on political and other matters
  14. Kayode Egbetokun, inspector general of police (IGP)
  15. Adeola Ajayi, director-general, Department of State Services (DSS)

The chief of defence staff, the office of the permanent secretary, and the general services office (GSO) will serve as the secretariat to the committee.

Imohiosen noted that Tinubu has also directed all ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to open condolence registers at the entrance of their respective offices for the public to pay their respects to Buhari.

He added that a central condolence register for the diplomatic community and the general public will be opened at the ministry of foreign affairs and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre.
