Victor Osimhen, Super Eagles striker, has been named the ’emerging player of the year’ at the 2022 Globe Soccer Awards.
The 23-year-old Nigerian was given the prestigious award at the gala which was held at Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai on Thursday.
Osimhen defeated Barcelona’s Gavi and Federico Valverde of Real Madrid for the prize meant for the best young football talent in the world.
The award is a reward for his brilliant start of the season for Napoli which has seen him grab 10 goals in 14 appearances across all competitions.
He also leads Serie A’s goal-scoring chart as league football goes on break for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Osimhen’s coronation in Dubai came a few hours before the Super Eagles of Nigeria were thrashed 4-0 by Portugal in a friendly game at the José Alvalade stadium in Lisbon.
He missed out on the encounter due to injury.
Karim Benzema was named the ‘best men’s player of the year’, while Carlo Ancelloti won the gong for the ‘best manager’.
Mohammed Salah took home the ‘TikTok fans’ player of the year’ prize, while Sergio Ramos got the ‘best defender of all time’ award.
