The Cable Newspaper Journalism Foundation (CNJF), also known as the Cable Foundation, with support from Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA), is offering small grants to campus journalists across the six geopolitical zones of the country to pursue investigative story ideas either as individuals or as teams.
Cable Foundation, a partner of TheCable newspaper, is a not-for-profit organisation using the vehicle of journalism to advance transparency and accountability in government. It is a subscriber to “solutions journalism” – a school that believes in rigorous reporting of positive response to problems and challenges.
Implemented under its Campus Civic Media Campaign, the story grant seeks to support these next generation of media practitioners to tell stories which ordinarily may remain untold, while also strengthening their reportorial capabilities.
Stories could be in any sphere of interest: education, health, environment, agriculture and security, but should foreground issues of accountability, anti-corruption and good governance. Stories should be investigative and innovative in nature; that is, seek to uncover or bring to fore systemic or regulatory failures and human right abuses, and hold power to account — for the purpose of good governance.
