Games athlete battles sexual assault charge
Toua Udia of Papua New Guinea is due in court after being charged with sexually assaulting a man in a Tesco store near the Athletes’ Village.
The weightlifter denied the allegation after he was arrested by police in Glasgow.
Udia was charged over an alleged incident involving another man in a toilet at a Tesco store on Dalmarnock Road near the Athletes’ Village.
He reportedly spent the night in a cell after the incident, but he was allowed to compete in the men’s 77kg category at the Clyde Auditorium on Sunday afternoon.
The 26-year-old appeared on petition at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Tuesday, charged with offences under the Sexual Offences Scotland Act.
He is due in court again for a preliminary hearing on Monday and will return on Friday when he will go on trial for the offence.
