Gbaja appoints new aides — after resignation of appointees seeking elective offices

Femi Gbajabiamila, speaker of the house of representatives, has appointed Olanrewaju Wasiu as his chief of staff. 

Lanre Lasisi, special adviser to Gbajabiamila on media and publicity, announced this in a statement on Monday.

According to him, the appointments were made “following the resignation of political appointees seeking elective positions in line with the provisions of Electoral Act, 2022”.

Until his appointment, Wasiu was the deputy chief of staff to the speaker.

 “I have the pleasure to forward the name of Mr Olanrewaju Smart Wasiu for appointment as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Speaker, House of Representatives, for your information and necessary documentation,” the statement quoted Gbajabiamila as saying. 

“Until his appointment, Mr Olanrewaju-Smart was the Deputy Chief of Staff and had performed his duties admirably. The position became vacant following the resignation of Hon. Sanusi Garba Rikiji to seek elective office in line with the Electoral Act 2022.”

Gbajabiamila also elevated Olufunmi Badmus from the position of special adviser, special duties, to deputy chief of staff.

Other appointments included Abdulrauf Modibbo as special assistant on political matters (north-east); Lamir Ibrahim as special assistant, executive relations; Kenneth Uzoigwe as special assistant on political matters (south-east); Bisi Irinoye as special assistant on legislative matters; Ibrahim Ladega as special assistant on political matters (south-west); Jamila Muazu as senior legislative assistant I; Obiageli Onu as senior legislative assistant II: and Kunle Bello as senior legislative assistant III. 

The appointments are with immediate effect.

Gbajabiamila asked the new appointees to discharge their duties in compliance with the revised schedule of duties in the office of the speaker, in line with the revised legislative agenda of the ninth house of representatives. 

Lasisi also said Gbajabiamila has transmitted the names to Ojo Amos, the clerk of the national assembly.
