Femi Gbajabiamila, speaker of the house of representatives, says provision will be made for families of persons killed by operatives of special anti-robbery squad (SARS).

Speaking on the floor of the lower legislative chamber on Tuesday, Gbajabiamila said the house would initiate bills with the view of reforming the police.

In the past one week, citizens have taken to the streets to protest harassment and brutality of police, particularly by SARS operatives.

Mohammed Adamu, inspector-general of police (IGP), has since disbanded the unit but protesters have continued to demonstrate across the country, calling for a holistic reformation of the police.

President Muhammadu Buhari said erring officers of the now disbanded units would be prosecuted.

The speaker said the house supports the calls for the reformation of the police.

“We will get those whose lives were lost and during this budget process make adequate provision for compensation,” the number four citizen said.
