Gbenga Osinaike launches book to mark 50th anniversary of Ijebu-Ife Grammar School

Gbenga Osinaike, publisher of Church Times Nigeria, has unveiled a book to mark the 50th anniversary of Ijebu-Ife Community Grammar School (IICGS).

The 200-page book, titled ‘From Ijebu-Ife to the World: Enduring Legacy of IICGS @50’, was presented on September 6 during the school’s golden jubilee.

The publication, spread across 24 chapters, documents the success stories of alumni, former staff and the school’s founding fathers.

Among those featured are Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos and a member of the school’s second set; Afolabi Adeniyi, Shell Nigeria’s first gas reservoir engineer; Adejinle Babalola, a US-based award-winning surgeon; and Dayo Adedayo, a photographer renowned for projecting Nigeria’s image globally.

Adedayo recommended the book to current students of Ijebu-Ife Community Grammar School and students in rural communities across Nigeria.

“In this work, Osinaike shows that no matter how low your status or your starting point in life, you can attain the highest status if you diligently apply yourself to what you are doing,” Adedayo wrote.

“You don’t have to resign to fate. You don’t have to give up. You don’t need to believe that, because your parents are poor or your friends and relations are not in high places, you cannot amount to anything in life.”

Ijebu-Ife Community Grammar School, located in Ijebu East LGA of Ogun state, south-west Nigeria, opened on September 5, 1975.
