President Goodluck Jonathan will on Wednesday host a special edition of the presidential media chat.
According to Reuben Abati, special adviser to the president on media and publicity, the programme will be broadcast live on the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) and the Voice of Nigeria (VON) from 7pm.
“President Jonathan will respond to questions from a panel of journalists on current national issues,” Abati said, urging all other television and radio stations in the country to hook up to NTA and FRCN to relay the programme to their viewers and listeners.
The last presidential media chat held in May, 2014, and is still being remembered for moments such as when Jonathan said that if anyone stole $20 billion, the United States would know.
This was in response to the allegation of Sanusi Lamido, the then governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, that $20 billion was missing from the federation account.
The president also spoke on the kidnap of more than 200 Chibok girls, saying it was “traumatising” and revealing that security personnel had been checking Borno state since incident.
“Soldiers have been massively deployed to the area but there is no headway yet,” he said.
