Mohammed Kudus scored a brace as Ghana recovered from surrendering a two-goal lead to win 3-2 against South Korea in their Group H encounter at the Education City stadium on Monday.

After losing to Portugal in another five-goal thriller, the West African nation was expected to put in a gutsy performance and the players duly delivered by romping to a two-goal lead in the first half.

Mohammed Salisu scored the opener before Kudus took centre stage with a brace as Ghana became the first nation to score and concede at least five goals in a World Cup in 40 years.

The Black Stars have also scored in seven consecutive World Cup matches.

Salisu gave Ghana the lead on 24 minutes with a close-range strike as South Korea failed to deal with a free kick. Ten minutes later it was 2-0 courtesy of Kudus’ glancing header from Jordan Ayew’s cross.

Dreamland for Ghana fans quickly turned into a nightmare as South Korea responded with two goals early in the second half. The sleepy Ghana defence was undone by two well-taken headers by Cho Gue-sung in three minutes.

An undeterred Ghana, without a victory in a World Cup match since 2010, claimed the winning goal through Kudus on 68 minutes. The Ajax Amsterdam forward curled a low shot into the net to spark joyous scenes from both the bench and the stands.

Ghana, with three points from two matches, will play Uruguay in their final group match for a place in the knockout phase.

Earlier in the day, Cameroon roared back from two goals down to share the spoils against Serbia in a 3-3 classic.

Jean-Charles Castelletto gave the Indomitable Lions the lead before goals from Strahinja Pavlovic, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Aleksandar Mitrovic threatened to send Cameroon packing from Qatar.

Rigobert Song’s side however hung on for a point with well-taken goals from Vincent Aboubakar and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. They have all to play for when they meet Brazil, five-time World Cup champions, in their final group match on Friday.
