Joseph Boakye Danqua Adu, a member of the Ghanaian parliament, was stabbed to death at his private residence in Accra, capital of Ghana, on Tuesday.

George Dampare, a top police officer, confirmed the incident but said it was unclear if the assailants were armed robbers or assassins.

Dampare said Adu’s killers went inside his bedroom, aided by a ladder, struggled with him for a few minutes, before overpowering him.

He added that investigations into the incident had begun.

The deceased, who belonged to the New Patriotic Party (NPP), had a wife and two children.

According to Joy Online, a Ghanaian website, Adu, whose grandfather was a founding member of the NPP, was born in 1965.

“He was deputy minister for women and children’s affairs under the erstwhile Kufuor administration, and won the Abuakwa north seat in the eastern region in the December 2012 elections after defeating the National Democratic Congress,” the website said in its report.
