‘Give us this day, our daily bread’

For many of us, this phrase rings from a distant past.

The days of nursery rhymes; of childhood cheer and chatter.

The era of the daily bread has been a long time coming.

We work every day of our lives because somewhere in our subconscious, it is about the bread and no moment can be left to chance.

Rest therefore, is a luxury.

What used to almost  be the burden of the menfolk has since become the yoke on men and women alike.

‘Won’t I provide for the family’ he says… ‘It all adds up’ she says.

On the streets before day break, at sunset, today’s executive is just settling into the actual day’s work.

At what point do we really pause to exhale and enjoy life?

We are anxious about our lives.  Fearful of the unknown. Unsure of the future

I am an advocate of the many sayings on striving for success: Make hay while the sun shines!  He who does not work must not eat.

However, there is a balance even to those words.

Rest when the sun does not shine. (And I mean this literally)

Eat after you have worked.

When was the last time you danced without being conscious of whether or not you got the moves like Jagger?

When did you last read a book just for laughs.

Beautiful things are happening everyday around you.

When did you last stop to notice them?

Life’s greatest regrets usually stem from the people we didn’t show how much we cared for, the places we wish we’d been, the things we didn’t do rather than things we actually did.

There is so much more to life than bread.

Make time for the important relationships in your life. Check up on your grandma, call that uncle that gave you your first bike. Travel the world. Take pictures. Make true friends. Love,  learn, dream. Create memories

If you want to conquer the anxiety of life, live in the moment.

For after you make a ‘living’,  you must not forget to make a ‘life’
