The 58th FirstBank Amateur Open Golf Championship will tee off on the course of Ikoyi Golf 1938 on November 15, with over 200 players from Nigeria, Africa and Europe contesting for world amateur ranking.
On Friday, Concierge Sports, the organisers, said the world ranking pursuits would make this year’s event keenly contested, although its amateur status would attract no cash prizes.
“This competition has gone international having been listed by the World Amateur Golf Ranking,” said Kayode Oguntayo, representative of Concierge Sports.
TheCable learnt that the sponsor had finalised plans to bring two European PGA professionals to coordinate coaching clinics for special guests, spectators and children during the three-day event billed to end on November 17.

Adesola Adeduntan, chief executive officer of FirstBank Nigeria Limited, said the continuous sponsorship of the event symbolised the bank’s heritage, values, performance and quality.
“In our 125 years of existence, we have partnered with individuals and institutions to provide support not only in the sports arena, but also in education, the arts as well as small and medium enterprises,” the CEO said.
