Golfers to compete for N34.5m as Lagos Amateur Open begins Nov. 17

Participants will compete for a total prize pool of N34.5 million at the 2025 Lagos Open Amateur Golf Championship. 

The competition will be held from November 17 to 23 at the Ikoyi Club in Lagos.

The tourney, sponsored by FirstBank Plc, is in its 64th edition, making it the oldest and longest-running bank-owned golf tournament in Nigeria.

Ayokunle Ojo, the head of treasury sales and derivative marketing at First Bank, said the winner of the tournament will go home with N10 million, “the biggest reward for the game of golf in Nigeria”.

“Our sponsorship of the Lagos Open Amateur Golf Championship is not only about competition; it also reflects our commitment to building communities, driving inclusion, and deepening engagement through our First@Sports initiative – a platform that celebrates talent and promotes social impact through sports,” he said.

“Golf, for us, is more than a sport; it is a connector – of people, of ideas, and of opportunities, showing that golf is not just a game for the elite, but a game that speaks to ambition, builds lasting relationships and drives community development.”

Babatunde Oni, captain of Ikoyi Golf Club, said the tournament will feature a combined number of amateur golfers and aspiring professionals.

At least 200 golfers are expected to participate in the week-long tournament.

The 64th edition of the Lagos Open Amateur Golf Championship will also feature professional coaching clinics, a Caddy’s Competition, the Championship Kitty, and a Corporate Golf Challenge for Charity.
