‘Good players enjoy football here’ — Rashford joins Barcelona on loan

Marcus Rashford is the first English player to join Barcelona since Gary Lineker in 1986

Marcus Rashford has joined Barcelona on a season-long loan from Manchester United. 

The Spanish club announced the signing of the English winger on Wednesday.

Rashford moves to the Camp Nou on loan till the end of the 2025/26 season, and Barcelona have the option of securing him permanently for £30.3 million in 2026.

The 27-year-old becomes the first English player to sign for Barcelona since Gary Lineker in 1986.

Rashford described Barcelona as “a place where dreams come true” and where “good players can enjoy the game”.

“I am looking forward to helping, and I want to win trophies. One of the reasons I came is that motivation and the ambition to be a better player,” he said.

Rashford last played for Manchester United in December 2024 after he was dropped by Ruben Amorin, the team’s manager.

He was with Aston Villa on loan for the second half of the 2024-25 season.

Barcelona is expected to cover the entirety of Rashford’s wages during his time at the club after he agreed to take a pay cut.
