Governors to hold talks on fuel subsidy Wednesday

The 36 state governors are scheduled to hold a meeting on Wednesday to discuss matters relating to fuel subsidy and COVID-19 vaccine.

Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, head of media and public affairs Nigeria Governors Forum’s head of media and public affairs, announced the intended meeting in a statement on Tuesday.

Nasir el-Rufai, Kaduna state governor, is scheduled to brief his colleagues on fuel subsidy before any decisions on the supply and retailing of the product is taken.

Bello-Barkindo said there will also be a presentation by the presidential task force on COVID-19 (PTF) on the AstraZeneca vaccine rolled out in the country and its disadvantages.

“On his part, the chairman of the forum and Governor of Ekiti state, Mr Kayode Fayemi, will update his colleagues on the outcome of his meeting with the committee of pro-chancellors of state universities, ” the statement read.

“The educationists met the forum’s chairman last week and presented a number of requests which they believed would improve education at the subnational level.”

According to Bello-Barkindo, there would presentations from three external groups.

Buba Marwa, chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), is expected to speak on the topic ‘Managing the Drug Crisis’.

The Department for International Development (DFID) will deliver a presentation on Nigerian National Petroleum (NNPC) audit reports and what states should know.

There will also be a presentation on trade facilitation in Nigeria through e-customs and a public private partnership (PPP) structure in partnership with the British high commission.
