The Adada State Movement has implored south-east governors and lawmakers to throw their weight behind the creation of Adada and Anim states.
Adada is proposed to be carved out of Enugu state, with Nsukka as its headquarters, while Anim should emerge from Anambra and Imo states, with Orlu as its capital.
Ike Abonyi, the group’s director of media and publicity, said the south-east governors’ forum and the national assembly caucus should maintain unity and closely monitor the bill as it moves through the legislative process.
“We urge both the South East Governors Forum and the South East National Assembly caucus to harmonise and stand on their decision by monitoring the situation as it is presented to the National Assembly for final consideration,” the statement reads.

“The region must take no actions that could undermine the rectification of a longstanding injustice regarding state creation for the region.”
On Tuesday, the group accused Ned Nwoko, senator representing Delta north, of obstructing efforts to create a new state in the south-east.
It alleged that Nwoko, who is not from the south-east, is attempting to “create confusion, and deny the region its rightful request for equity and justice”.
