The Network of Bayelsa Professionals has asked the inspector-general of police (IGP) and other security agencies to guarantee a peaceful gubernatorial election on November 11 in the state.

They expressed their sorrow over the history of violence during state elections and called on security agencies to prevent such occurrences.

On Friday, Deinmobofa Tantua, the group’s spokesperson, during a press briefing in Abuja, appealed to politicians to refrain from making inflammatory statements to ensure a peaceful election.

The group is sounding the alarm about violent intentions by certain politicians. They revealed that during one of the rallies, a politician openly threatened to seize power through force.

“We call on the IGP and other security agencies to ensure a violent-free election for the first time in the state.

“We cannot wave such threat aside. The antecedent of the man who made the threat is well known. We want peace in the state. Elections are not war. That is the message, we, as a group have been preaching.”

Tantua also urged President Bola Tinubu not to interfere in the forthcoming election in the state.
